Vicki and Doug - The Smiths...
When someone says "Empty Nest" or "Down Size", what do you think of...selling a big home for something a little smaller?
Well, Vicki and Doug had a different idea.
They built a smaller "home", an "In-Law House", attached to their larger home. They allowed one of their family members to move into the larger house.

The original house was already using energy efficient equipment. The house is cooled and heated with a geo-thermal system. The system is large enough to be used in the new addition

In the new addition, they used Low-E products from bottom to top:
- Slab Shield was used for the thermal barrier of the slab. Doing this will keep the slab from getting as cold as the ground temperature.
- Low-E House Wrap was applied around the exterior walls before the siding was applied. This will help in the summer keeping out the radiant heat. Additionally, it will reduce the outside noise from entering the house.
- Micro-E was used for the attic. Because of the roof pitch, the product was applied from the top. The material was draped across the trusses allowing it to drop about 3" between each truss. This will keep the attic area cooler in the summer.

With all of this Low-E Radiant Insulation in the house, the Smiths will keep their cooling and heating energy levels very low.
