Side Wall Installation
2" x 6" Side Wall Cavity
Consumers and contractors utilize Low-E Staple Tap Insulation to avoid the application expense and labor using furring strips.
1. Back fill the cavity with friction fit fiberglass.
2. Staple the Low-E Tab Insulation between the studs. Leave an airspace between the fiberglass and the sheet rock.
2" x 4" Side Wall Cavity
In this application, Low-E becomes both the vapor barrier as well as an insulator.
1. Apply friction fit fiberglass batt to the wall cavity.
2. Nail 1" x 2" furring strips across the studs every 16".
3. Staple Low-E Insulation to the furring strips. Tape all seams using Foil Tape.
4. Nail a second set of furring strips directly over the first set of furring strips using 3 #10 wood screws.
5. Apply sheet rock to the furring strips using rock screws.
A helpful hint...Use shallow electric boxes and install them in the last set of furring strips. This way the vapor barrier will remain intact.
