In this application, R-Value is not important.
To understand why, you have to realize that the ground is a constant 55° F and regular mass insulations will eventually stabilize at that temperature, therefore the mass insulation will provide a constant drain of temperature from the slab.
Slab-Shield has a layer of pure aluminum sandwiched between the layers of polyethylene, that provides a thermal break which prevents the slab from seeking the ground temperature, thereby allowing the slab to reach room temperature sooner and keeps the slab warmer.
